October 4, 2021
For immediate release.

The Lexington Philharmonic is thrilled to announce the third chapter of the 2021/2022 Season: STORIES, a season which marks our much-awaited return to live, in-person, indoor performances for our central Kentucky community.

In February and May, LexPhil welcomes to Lexington the final two Music Director & Conductor candidates, Julia Tai & Keitaro Harada, for their audition performances. Finalists Julia and Keitaro will engage with Lexington for a week of community events and music-making, culminating in their Season Series audition performances at the Singletary Center for the Arts. In April, LexPhil will present Queens Rule, a collaboration with UK Opera Theatre originally scheduled for October 16, 2021 and postponed due to COVID-19.

“Our community has been looking forward to the full orchestra reuniting for performances at the Singletary Center for the Arts, and we are thrilled to announce these three exciting programs for the spring,” says Allison Kaiser, Executive Director of the Lexington Philharmonic. “The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted a historic moment for LexPhil, as we were in the middle of the search for our new Music Director & Conductor. We’re so excited to complete our search, and write this next chapter with our community. ”

On Friday, February 25, 2022, conductor finalist Julia Tai leads the orchestra in a program titled Transfigurations that includes Missy Mazzoli’s River Rouge Transfiguration, Bloch’s Schelomo; Hebraic Rhapsody featuring renowned cellist Gary Hoffman, and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 in A minor 'Scottish'.

Saturday, April 9, 2022, LexPhil presents Queens Rule (originally scheduled for October 16, 2021) at the Singletary Center for the Arts. Queens Rule will feature a LexPhil commissioned arrangement from Duke Ellington’s unfinished opera, Queenie Pie, in collaboration with and featuring talent from UK Opera Theatre, combined with a performance of Haydn’s Symphony No. 85 “The Queen.”

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, conductor finalist Keitaro Harada leads the orchestra in a program titled Beyond the Sky that includes Loren Loiacono’s Smothered by Sky, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 featuring piano virtuoso Xiayin Wang and Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 in B-Flat Major.
