Saturday, June 12 at the Loudoun House

The Lexington Philharmonic is thrilled to announce Beat of the Heartland, a collaborative performance with Lexington Hip-Hop artist and activist Devine Carama and LexPhil musicians that explores the power of community through music. This free concert on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 7:00 PM at the Loudoun House will showcase the music of Devine Carama performing with a string quintet from the Lexington Philharmonic, local vocalists, and spoken word artists. Visual artists will also be on site during the concert, creating new visual works alongside the performances. More supporting events and artist announcements will be made at www.lexphil.org, as well as the LexPhil Facebook page and event.

In addition to this exciting collaborative performance, this concert will also include a community festival in the afternoon before the concert, in partnership with the Lexington Art League. The festival will take place the afternoon before the concert. The festival will feature Lexington nonprofits and community vendors. Food vendors will also be on-site. Announcements about community partners and vendors will be made at www.lexphil.org and on Facebook.

"LexPhil is so excited to partner with Devine and other community collaborators on this musical gathering,” says Kelly Corcoran, LexPhil Interim Artistic Advisor. “We hope this concert will serve as a joyful opportunity to celebrate unity and hope, with Hip-Hop music at the center. Music can serve as a catalyst for social change and conversation and we are honored to join Devine in this work."

Registration to attend this free concert opens on Monday, May 10 at www.lexphil.org/events. Early registration is strongly encouraged as capacity for this event will be limited due to Covid-19 public health restrictions.

LexPhil will continue to plan and announce safe and accessible program updates and new initiatives during 2021 at www.lexphil.org. LexPhil’s spring season will expand LexPhil in Your Neighborhood programs to continue safely and creatively engaging through music across central Kentucky.
