  • Céline Browning (NY) created "Fly Away" as a sculptural bird blind meant to be enjoyed by visitors while viewing the surrounding landscape. The sculpture is made up of four steel archways and twenty-one steel panels. Each set of steel panels features a pair of plants and birds native to Kentucky. Following the panels from the bottom to the top of the structure, the birds appear to be taking flight and flying away. The overhead panels show the six different bird species featured on the side panels, with eighteen silhouettes in total. The design of the structure was inspired by the work of the artist's mother, Annette Barbier, particularly her final piece of public art, which remained unfinished at the time of her death in 2017.

OTHER MUSIC & ACTIVITIES

Beyond the five ensemble performances, explore the interactive sound installation and make your own music at LexPhil’s MusicLab.

The Porch Project: Take it to the Bridge by Heather Hart

INTERACTIVE SOUND INSTALLATION

  • Heather Hart’s (NY) The Porch Project series features interactive sculptures designed for intimate conversations and community events. Hart shares: "Take it to the Bridge is inspired by the idea of a bridge as a space of possibility. It literally traverses liminal space and acts as the connective tissue between my territory and yours. A bridge is also a space that has been historically violently interrupted with the torture of Black people. This sculpture holds all the joy and possibility of what is in front of you and aches of a past we can never forget."

  • Create your own music by touching an instrument! When touched, each instrument activates a recording of that instrument played by a LexPhil musician. See what happens when you touch multiple instruments at different times. Work with others to hear all of the instruments in a brass quintet!
