THE CONVERSATIONALIST
BY CHAKAIA BOOKER

  • Like a conversation, this piece physically represents a gradual building of elements that climax at a point of tension or harmony. The form labors to break free of emotional constraints as it pushes towards the sky and comes to a realization. Symbolically, Chakaia Booker's (NY) sculptural "conversation" explores the potential for unity and understanding that would ideally originate from conversations between those of different beliefs and values. Booker believes that "art is a storytelling, but the story is open, fluid, mysterious."

Booker is an internationally renowned and widely collected American sculptor known for creating monumental, abstract works from recycled tires and stainless steel for both the gallery and outdoor public spaces. Booker’s works are contained in more than 40 public collections and have been exhibited across the US, in Europe, Africa, and Asia. Including Millennium Park, Chicago, Garment District Alliance Broadway Plazas, New York, NY, and National Museum of Women in the Arts New York Avenue Sculpture Project, Washington DC.

ReCYCLE~
BY ADDISON BIRD

  • ReCycle~ takes sound samples of man made materials that are generally considered waste (mostly Rubber), and attempts to make something more out of them. This piece is an attempt to embrace ecology and imagine a world of harmony. ReCycle~ uses randomization and environmental data to transform constantly.

Addison Bird is a composer, performer, and educator whose primary focus is in electronic music. She also blends it with her experience in film, classical, and rock music. Addison creates electronic music programs for the Lexington Philharmonic, and works as the assistant to the renowned composer Stephen Trask.

ABOUT LEXINGTON BALLET COMPANY

The Lexington Ballet Company and School aims to nurture better human beings who understand the value of the arts. Not everyone will become a dancer but everyone can benefit from what dance has to offer.

Dance encapsulates what is good and valuable in the human spirit: Kindness, Valor, Empathy, Courage, Beauty, Wisdom, Strength, and all that is beautiful in the human species. Dance embodies these concepts and transmits them first to our students and then to our audience.

It is Lexington Ballet Company’s responsibility to pass on this transforming information.
